New Venue On Cockatoo Island/wareamah

All aboard the Skylark!

The 6th Edition of the Sydney Harbour Concours d’Elegance is once again supported by our title sponsor, ‘Australia’s Own’, Ampol. The dates for 2024 are Thursday 29 February (yes, it is a Leap Year) to Sunday 3rd March.

And the new venue for the southern hemisphere’s leading concours is sure to be the best yet as we depart the waters of the Emerald City and arrive at Cockatoo Island. Known to Sydney’s First Nations peoples as Wareamah, the island is one of Australia’s most iconic destinations due to its historic landmarks and terrain. The UNESCO World Heritage listed Convict Site provides a window into the era when Cockatoo Island was a convict gaol (1839-69). Meanwhile, the former naval dockyard, including the cathedral-like Turbine Shop, is a reminder of the significant contribution the island made to Australia’s maritime affairs across 134 years. Our home on the island will be the Turbine Shop (c. 1942-45), which is notable for its soaring ceilings, exposed steel beams and remnant shipbuilding machinery.

The Turbine Shop – and Cockatoo Island more broadly – has hosted large-scale cultural events previously, including the Biennale of Sydney, Opera Australia productions, the Invictus Games, movies such as Hugh Jackman’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the 2018 Pacific Rim Uprising, and live music concerts. It will provide a unique industrial backdrop for Sydney Harbour Concours d’Elegance, complementing the luxury, style and elegance of the incredible motor cars featured in ‘Haute Automobilisme on the Edge of the Pacific’.

Further information regarding how to join in all the fun will be announced in the coming weeks.
